d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Sorry I have been absent but it has been a stressful week-ish. Friday I found my orp head hen with a horrible abcess that burst...my red cochin was snatched by a predator and that same night I caught a fox standing on his hind legs scratching at the pop door of one of my coops...well no trap needed for this one because having already had a bad day, it tried to get away and got grabbed and repeatedly slapped against the back wall of my coop until it stopped moving. Yes, I killed it and Yes I slept fine Thursday night. Saturday my orp died, nothing I could do and nothing the vet could do, although we both tried very hard.

Sunday I drove to Tenneessee and picked up my grandson for a week long visit. Lord help me I am too old for the whirlwind energy of an 8 year old. I have survived two days...pray I make it till Saturday when I return him. hahahahaha

Here is something different. Every silver quail I have hatched this year has started out looking like this.

But in this last batch I have this one that I am intrested in seeing what it turns into.

I like the new picture posting process..

Look at this purdy boy!

He is really cool-looking! Now, what color do you call that?

My chicksters are 3 1/2 weeks old and I still don't see more than maybe one or two cockerels on the 5 of them. Hopefully, that's all there are. Will be easier to rehome them, though four of them are full brother and sister.

Videos of the ramp-trained kids for you. The first file was getting too large so continued on the second one. All chicks here learn to go up the ramp to the command "INSIDE".

We just installed another window in the bantam coop. It's a horizontal casement window that is actually in the front storage area, but they can look out of it from the roost. It opens into the covered pen, but will provide extra light and cross ventilation as well. Bought it at the flea market for $10, brand new. Still need trim on the outside of it to match the big stationary picture window.

Pics of the newly installed window. Sorry the coop is so dirty. It's been so dry that everything is just covered in dust and everyone is molting like crazy.

Cyn- that is a Crele, hatched it from some of Aubrey's eggs.

Nice looking window installation, I need to do something like that in my new breeder pens. Thinking I may just cut a hole, cover it with wire and then trim around it with a shutter. Still thinking about it.
