Dark brown egg laying breeds

Thanks for the info and good luck with them. I may wait a year, enjoy what I've ordered this year and think about a dark egg laying assortment in a year or two.

LOL after spending the day (home due to snow) researching incubators and thinking this over I am now thinking of ordering Barnevelders and Welsummers from Ideal. Maybe more than I originally planned (like 10-12) and then selling some when they're older. We are in eastern CT. Does anyone have any experience in placing extra pullets in the general area of breeds like these. Just want to know if I've got a good chance of finding homes for the extras.

Kristin,

If you want to split an order through Ideal contact me. We are up by Union. What town are you in?

I will PM you! Cool!!

Edited to add: I attempted to PM you but it was acting weird so I also emailed you. Please let me know if you don't get either. I'm definitely interested in this since I really really really want some Barnevelders!!!

LOL, looks like I'll be splitting an order with DougD. You want in? I promise not to tell! I'm trying to sneak these past DH myself because he already thinks I'm nuts with 8 of other breeds on the way from McMurray in April....

I had no problem selling the extras from my minimum order. I put an add on criagslist and had to cancel the add the next day from overwheming responses. And it looks like you are getting enough interest before you even get them.

I'm in for three or four, let's say two Welsummers and two Barnevelders. *sigh*, what am I thinking? Other than, "OMG, my broody hens will go berserk with actual babies to care for!" I have no less than three broody girls right now, it's pathetic to watch them hunch over everyone else's eggs.
