Dark Egg Breeds Thread

My girls have dropped their production down to 1 egg every other day. THey are slacking. LOL Has anyone else experienced a decrease? Consistent laying doesn't seem like it is a strong characteristic in the BCM. Love the eggs though.

Out of 12 layers we get about 4 eggs a day

I think our roo is in molt, one hen is broody for the fourth time this summer and the others just quit. We did sell 3 hens recently and I figured that was part of the problem.... maybe they were the only ones laying lol.

Got a 5mos old FBCM roo to go with my two girls. They just turned two and I would like some babies before they get older.

You must be very EGGcited!!!

Will you hatch some eggs this fall?? I know there is a World Egg day hatch in the works on another thread.

What chickens lay dark eggs?
THere are several--I can list a few. If you go to the beginning of this thread and read a few dozen pages you will get introduced to several:

Marans: black copper, blue copper, wheaten, cuckoo and more. Cuckoos are usually a bit lighter and BC usually the darkest.

Welsummers
Barnvelders
Penes

I'm sure I'm missing some others.
