Dark house?

Hey guys,
I'll finally be getting my silkies Monday (can't wait)
I have the coop 90% finished just putting last minute touches anyway what I wanted to ask was is it ok for the house to be nearly completely dark? For when the chicks arrive?

Well how old are the chicks? If they are just a 1-7 old they have to have a heat lamp to keep them warm, if they are like 7 week already then its not the best possible situation but the won't die or anything (I did that)!
