Hello! So we started incubating a batch of 9 duck eggs, on April 1st. We lost one on day 7ish but other than that, the rest looked great until now. We’re on day 17 going on 18 and there are these mysteries dark spots that are inside the egg; and aren’t in the rest of them. They look really odd and the embryo is still moving, just not as active anymore. I really hope they are not any sort of parasites eating this baby alive:( we are really routing for this one in particular because we started with 7 mallards and 3 Indian Runners, lost a runner one runner is behind on development (though we sure do love our runts) and this guy has these dark splotches that are worrying us quite a bit! Please help!

No, parasites eating the embryo aren't possible AFAIK. Could it be the position of the embryo? Are the spots in potential eye position? I know with chicks, sometimes you can see them and sometimes not. Are the black areas round or...? Pics would be good if possible, too. I hope they are okay! :hugs

They aren’t the eyes, they aren’t completely round and are too far apart. Yeah that’s what I thought because then the egg would have to be open.
