What causes a dark spot in an unfertilized egg?

I wouldn't know, but I wouldn't eat it if I were you. It's okay to eat a fertilized egg though. How big was/is the spot? Where was The spot?

How old is your hen? If she just started laying, it could be "tissue" which is edible. Got a picture?

It might just be a blood spot, and if so, they are fine to eat. But if you still don't want to, just get it out with a spoon.
