Darn My Fast Metabolism

Exactly. Like I said, eat healthy food and gain muscle. That's a good way to gain "healthy" weight, not just by eating more.

Ladyhawk and I have talked about this one. I am hypothyroid and on medication, but live on 1200-1500 cal/day. For a time, now, DH and I have been semi-vegetarian. And we've gained weight from it. A year ago, I broke my ankle badly and was inactive for almost a year. Now, I have to still be careful in walking around this mountain property that I used to hike all the time because the ankle still hurts and swells up. I do use hand weights almost daily, do leg lifts in bed, etc.
It's depressing never getting to eat what you want and having programs other folks swear by not work for me. On occasions, I may make a batch of cookies or a pound cake once in awhile, but that is not the norm, especially not lately. So, let me have your fast metabolism for a month and you can have my slow one! I don't drink, don't smoke, don't go out to eat except on very rare occasions. Been eating lots of stir fry veggies and whole wheat pasta with it lately. Oatmeal or Special K with 1% milk for breakfast (sometimes eggs), small something for lunch, fairly small supper. Sometimes eat a piece of fruit, maybe bananas on the oatmeal. Drink coffee in the a.m., herb teas and water. May have one Diet Rite cola once a day or every two days. I'd love to be on your side of the fence for awhile!

I'm 5'5, 100 pounds and I graze ALL day.
I think Asian diets are just more "healthy"

My mom weighed the same when she was my age... then she had me and she was only like 115-120?
People always tease me about eating disorders, but I've come to learn that it's just my size.

I range anywhere between 100-120 pounds (if I'm exercising!)

Do you not eat any good fats?
Our bodies thrive on good fats, especially since every cell in our body is 50% saturated fat.
THere is a reason pre industrial diets were comprised of 50-8-% of carlories coming from fats.
And diseases such as diabetes and heart disease were rare.
Enter the fake fats and low fats of modernity, and the rates of these diseases began to skyrocket.
Eating low fat is also the reason we crave food and have a hard time stopping eating.

Well, at 5'2" and 110 lbs, your BMI is 20.1 and totally in the normal range. And at the age of 18 you are not done growing, your womanly curves are still filling in. I would worry less about gaining net weight and be more concerned with your body composition. It's really important at your age to develop strong muscles and bones. As the older ladies here can tell you, it gets a LOT harder to shed fat as you get older. So starting womanhood with a healthy body is the foundation to keeping up with it. Resistance training may be very advantageous for you. Sit ups, pull ups, lifting and squatting, etc. You don't need the endurance exercise as much, but adding a little muscle will add some pounds, and you'll feel great and be able to start a great healthy lifetime routine.

BTW - I am a metabolism and body composition researcher

Yes, I do, Paula. I eat cheese every few days and about once a week, I have a lean burger patty grilled with melted provolone cheese, topped with onions and mushrooms sauteed in butter and olive oil. And when we have venison, we do eat meatloaf made with 2/3 venison and 1/3 reg ground beef. I used to do the mostly protein thing, but if I sort of get the gag thing going with too much meat. We do slow smoke a pork butt and have fabulous BBQ when it goes on sale. So, yes, I do get fats. We use real butter and olive oil quite a bit.sometimes, I put peanut butter on whole grain bread and just eat that. I have just lost my taste for beef/meat for the most part, not to mention that we just cannot afford it.

Oh I get the gagging if eating to much protien part.
Most ancient diets consisted of mostly fat, moderate protein and low carb. The natives would actually leave a carcass that had no fat on it to rot. They would not eat it, because if you eat protein without lots of fat on it, the body will rebel!
Thats why the high protein diets are so repulsive in the long term.
I use www.fitday.com to find out my ratios.
It can be astounding to actually see what one is actually eating, and if its actually nourishing. Nutrient dense foods will actually cause you to eat less over the course of the day. More bang for the buck so to speak.

Oh girl at 23 when I got married I only weight 99 lbs then before I got pregnant with my son I was 108 that was 25
now at 39 I weigh 140 I am also 5'2
I don't think you need to put on any weight - trust me as you get older it may be harder to keep off .

Easiest way to gain weight for me is to just stuff ur face, just keep shoving it in there. Works wonders on getting fatter with me, unfortenatley
