Darn temperature!!!

Well, I still don't have it stable. It's driving me crazy! At least I know that if I buy a bator of my own, I probably don't want a still air one. A fan helps keep the temp stable doesn't it? It is on a table, because it would never survive on the floor here. Between the dogs, the kids, and myself (I trip over anything that's not nailed down and some things that are), it would have been crushed already if it were on the floor. I picked the location it's in with things like windows, vents, etc. in mind. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time with it right now, but hopefully it will get back on track soon!

It's the weather. it does make a difference. I have an LG with a fan and i'm having problems. IT seems to want to stay around 102. I think thats a bit high. I don't mind 101.5 to 99.5 My humidity is up to 70% right now because of hatching. I just hope it doesn't hurt the ones that are due next. I'm still turning them, but there ins't anything I can do about the humidity on that side. I did put the sponges on one side where the hatching eggs are. I'm sure it isn't helping any.

Ok, so I thought I had it stable but apparently it wasn't quite. I was at playgroup with my kids and called my husband to ask him to check it. It was a little low, but not terribly. He offered to adjust it and I said no, but then changed my mind. I should have stuck with my first answer. He turned it far too high. He was keeping an eye on it, but he had definitely turned it up too much. I am home now to watch it, thank goodness. He was just trying to help, but from now on... hands off my bator!

I just spent 3 weeks of hell with an LG that refused to keep temp. I have had a hova (brand new) still air for 10 days now, and haven't had to adjust it once. sometimes it goes down to 100, but always comes back up to 101ish. figured 100 to 101 is going ot have to be good enough because i know if i touch it it will go off the wall.

i have my incubators in my closet on top of my brooder. i have found that since the brooder is in there, they are staying more stable. even the possessed lg. before the brooder, it would go from 95 to 103 without blinking an eye. in the last 5 days, the farthest temp variation was 99.3 to 101. the lg is still flying out the window, now that my hatch is done.

i know people that only use still airs, so i'm not sure if a fan would be better or not. your temp changes aren't going to hurt the babies that much. i still haven't seen a chicken with a fan on her butt.

It's the storm we had. Mine is still hovering at 102 exactly. I just adjusted it down again.

I haven't had to adjust mine AT ALL until this storm came through. Also, I read that further in development, the eggs start generating heat from the growth.

I say its the weather also. I didn't have any problems with mine either until the weather changed. I have to keep a close eye on mine now. It goes nuts. I will stay up all night to adjust it if I have to.

I know what you mean about not wanting anybody to mess with yours. The only thing I will let anybody do is open a window to let out heat. Then when it gets to 100 replace the window. If it hits 102 remove a window. The thermostat dial is so sensative. It only gets barely turned a hair and it can raise or lower it a whole degree. I did get 3 chicks so far. One of them has a problem. It can be a number of things but since that is a different subject, I won't discuss it here.
