It highly depends on where your interests lie... if you just want to raise chickens, you can still trade eggs and find cheap mixed breeds or "mutts" to hatch and raise.

The higher priced eggs are usually from "show birds" that "show people" buy because they are after quality, purebred birds and are passionate about raising quality poultry, or preserving breeds.

And then theirs the folks who see chickens as money, and will sell eggs for extravagant amounts because an ill informed and uneducated buyer will pay for them.

First eggs selling on ebay, have so many people bidding on the pure rare breeds.

I for one have start an auction with low starting bid, on my rare peach white eye peafowl. Were they sold for 155.00 for 4 eggs. But just one of the peachick would sell for 150.00, It alot about demand on ebay.

I don't know why anyone would answer you. I thought your post was rather insulting. I'm sure your 13 year old has more common sense than all of us, after all we're just silly. The bottom line is that any commodity is worth what people will pay for it. If eggs are overpriced people won't buy them and the price will come down. It's just that simple.

Domino isn't the only one who found your post insulting....but I was nice in my answer to you and your daughter. I don't know why it makes any difference to you how much the rest of us chose to pay for our eggs.

So if you have something nobody else has then people spend more on eggs because chicks cost to much. What if none hatches do you give them there money back when they spend so much or do you send more eggs?
I still think its fun to hatch eggs I like to take them up to the school with the incubator the other kids like it to.
Wow that is alot did they hatch after being mailed? I bet you can by alot of feed or dinners for that. Do they lay alot or not very much? What do they look like? I could never spend that much on eggs, on the birds maybe I could see someone spending alot of money if its one they really want. I bet they are pretty birds if people will spend that much! Do you have a picture?
I told my mom how much your eggs sold for her mouth dropped it was funny.

OK, this may sound a little wierd at first, but can your daughter put a price on the egg that she developed from?

We have some that are mutts we hatched out at christmas they are very cute but I like our pure breed ones better because I can tell what they are right after they hatch. I wish our LaFleche chickens didnt eat there eggs I would want more of that kind they are kind of scary looking but really nice.
