Did anyone else get an email from David Thiel (foghornwithapen) regarding a coop design book?
Just trying to decide if it's a scam or not.

I got one too. I decided it sounded fishy and didn't respond.

I responded & he wanted my SS number. Pretty sure it's a scam!!!

Guys, ANY time something like that happens, please REPORT the member immediately!! I know I don't want to see any kind of bad things happen to our members here who may not know it is a scam. We all seem to trust each other here, but you ALWAYS have to be careful. Never give out your SS# to anyone!

David Thiel is reaching out to people to see if he can use their chicken coop pictures and information. From what I understand, the SS # is requested for those that will be compensated for using their work. People can and should each individually decide if it is something they want to do and what information they can and should provide. This is not a BYC project.

I have been in email contact with the man about his proposed book. He says that the SSN is not required right off the bat. They will need it eventually if you want to be paid for your contribution.

I don't know if he is legit or not, but I figure there is no harm in sending him some pictures. I'd love to hear what y'all are thinking.

If he is on the up & up I apologize. But I can't think of one reason why he would need my SS#.

How did he ask for your SSN? Was it on the Permission to Publish form or did he just email you wanting your SSN? On the Permission to Publish form it is so you can get paid for your submission. In an email is kinda suspicious...
