Not now days, not here anyways.
We also hire teens for evening shifts. Nothing to it. Feed, water, sweep basically. Most only work one or two nights a week and I swear they call in more often then they work.
My bosses new motto is a bad employee is better then no employee. My answer is.... but is that really the only options? Apparently so.

I don't trust any of them.
A couple are crazy. A couple are skittish. A few are young and dumb.. Most are fine but I stay safe figuring they all want to kill me.
Missouri has a law that no matter what or why it happens the barn owner isn't responsible for any injury you may get from a horse so if it happens you're own your own.
