There is one breed of dog that I would have in a blink of an eye. They protect poultry from predators day and night. Big white dogs that I cannot remember the name of. I'd feel a lot better going off with chickens out doing chicken things during the day. I've watched one work with geese, ducks, and chickens. He is so ever watchful of them.

I had worried about how one would take to the hot humid summer months way down south here.

Hmmm good point. Anatolian Shepherd might be better. Shorter coat. But then again I do see plenty in hot environments.
