(Day 1) 29-Day Giving Challenge - A place for sharing.

Hey Rainplace,
I just realized you are having trouble with your neighbor. I have a harassment protection order out against mine. She is the sourest, meanest, downright ugliest woman on the face of the earth. I feel your pain.

Good morning everybody! And hugs to you all!

rainplace - Its hard to have negativity so close to home. Its always in your face.
barnie.gif
I don't know your whole situation but what if you took the opposite track and killed them with kindness. Smile, wave, say hello, it might make things better (or not - I may be really out to lunch here so let me know if I am)

rainplace - on the frozen cake - the guys love sweets so they don't care as long as there are some around. I used to have trouble with my exH eating frozen baking. He had his desk set up downstairs and while he was studying, he would eat frozen butter tarts, cookies, etc. I found him out one day when I had company for tea and was going to bring up some butter tarts and the container was EMPTY!

I was not pleased because I didn't have anything to serve with the tea.

So back to your original question, they probably are quite as good as fresh from the oven but are still very good and like I said these guys don't care.

weaveagarden - here's the recipe - enjoy!

Flapper Pie – 1 10” pie

CRUST (I like cinnamon in the crust but that is my own personal taste - I add a sprinkle or so)
1/3 cup melted butter
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup sugar
Melt butter and stir in crumbs and sugar. Press mixture into pie plate and bake in 350F oven for 10 minutes.

FILLING (I used to make a different filling but this turned out to firm and stayed nice to cut - no oozing at all)
4 cups milk
4 egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
4 heaping TBSP corn starch
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp vanilla
Put all ingredients except vanilla in a large microwavable bowl and beat well. Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Give a good stir and microwave afew more minutes until mixture is bubbly and begins to thicken. Add vanilla, stir well and pour into pie crumb crust.

MERINGUE
4 egg whites
1/2 tsp cream of tarter
4 tbsp sugar
Beat egg whites and cream of tarter until soft peaks form. Add sugar and beat until stiff. Pile onto filling, making sure to spread meringue right to the edges. Bake in 400F oven for 6-8 minutes until golden.

Chill and serve. It is also very good if you time it just right that you serve it just slightly warm.

weaveagarden - good for you! they will enjoy those eggs immensely!

WriterofWords - Good for you! I'm sure she was very grateful and relieved that you did that for her.

Damummis - sorry for the troubles with your neighbour. I guess my advice to rainplace wouldn't work for you and may be the wrong advice for her.

I haven't had to deal with unneighbourly neighbours to that degree. I've had some jerks over the years but nothing like what you seem to be going through.

I plan to bake some cookies today but not sure what else and haven't planned my giving yet. Until later.

jojo - I love custard. I love pie. I love MERINGUE. And I love vanilla and cinnamon together!!!!! Wow. Flapper Pie seems to be just the right thing for me. Thank you so very much!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to make this.

My helper person has been trying to get me to just let him work on a room in my house without my input. He has a tendency to throw away stuff that I find important. He also is like a bull in a china shop. So I have some real Trust issues with letting him just go at my clutter. But I need a roommate very badly (or perhaps a renter in the future

. So I am giving him the gift of my trust today. I am designating 2 rooms in my house as his for the day. Let the feathers and dust fly where they may. None of that stuff is mine today. I am not sure who is gonna have the better day, because I am getting a lot of help out of the bargain. But for what it is worth. That is my gift of the day.

I think I will try to give away a rock today also. If the rain allows me when the school bus arrives near my house.

Picked up middle school trash yesterday. I tried not to be resentful of litterbugs, while I did it. A woman who lives across the street from the school waved and shouted thanks to me.

I'm betting she picks up a lot of trash.

Right now, I'm baking a banana-coconut bread for co-workers at DH's job tomorrow.

feathersnuggles - I know exactly how you feel. I wish litterbugs would be caught and made to clean up bags of litter. They'd learn. But great job doing the litter pickup yourself.

WriterofWords - good for you and your class!

The last couple of days, I've been a baking fool. The weather wasn't so great so what better to do than bake up a storm!

Today I donated spme books to one of the banks in town. They use the money raised for Breast Cancer research. I take turns with my books to either the bank for Breast Cancer, the doctor's office for the Hospital Fund, or the library for the Library Fund.

I also walked a stray cart back home to the rack at the grocer store (poor cart was sitting by himself in the middle of the parking lot - sniff, sniff,

missing his friends) lol

I'm losing it aren't I?

Yes jojo you are losing it. But that is a good thing.

I am losing it too. I have been sitting here laughing wondering if anybody else noticed that we have a theme today. Today is the great pick-up artist day. 3 posts in a row with pick up in it. LOL.

Eggs today again.

I also tried to give up my valentines on farmville today so somebody else could PICK them UP. but not many people listened to me, so I think that one sort of fizzled.

The day isn't over. I hope I have another chance to give. Not my best day today

Oh, I forgot. I picked up after my friends pets on petville today. But since I get points, I think I might have a hard time convincing you that it fits the giving spirit. .
