It is day 18 here and the eggs have come out of the turner and put into cartons. I had to toss 4 more eggs today, so I'm down to 17 eggs in the bator. 6 of those are Welsummers and I can't see into those shells good enough to even tell if anything has been growing in them, so I guess we'll see. I guess a small hatch would be a good thing in light of what has been going on here, but I was really hoping for more Welsummers out of this. Maybe next spring.
I forgot to mention that this is my last hatch for the year. Wanna' talk about going out with a bang. NOT!
Thank you for all the good hatching vibes and well wishes. I guess we will see what happens.
MissPrissy My death toll from the Coryza is up to 16 now. 7 have died and I have had to cull 9. I have 33 left so far. After the treatment of antibiotics and vaccinations, I have to cull anyone that's left who is sick, because those will be the ones who are the carriers. I am not noticing that anyone is sick much anymore except for the Blue Orps. having an eye infection, which goes along with the Corzya. So if the eyes don't clear up, then they will have to be culled.
When I left for church yesterday morning I glanced in the bator to see if there was by chance any pips. There wasn't, so we went on to church and I didn't think anymore about it. After we came home I was walking past the bator and heard a loud, "PEEP! PEEP!" I turned around quickly and peered down inside the bator to a newly hatched bantam leghorn and 5 more pips! WOW! When I went to bed last night all of my bantams had hatched along with my one and only Ameraucana. I got up and checked on them all at about 3:30 a.m. and saw that I had a Welsummer pipped! WOO-HOO!
I was beginning to think that I wasn't going to get any Welsummer's out of this hatch. It has just hatched and I have another one pipped! I will post number and pictures in a little while.
