Day 18 is tomorrow!!

Ive got a chick!!!!! A little black one with a topknot and feathers on its feet!!! Its still wet tho, cant wait to see what it looks like dry!!! Ive got 2 more pipped, but 1 seems to be drying out, I added 3 medicine dosage cups of water and 2 wet sponges, and have put a little water on the "lining" part twice now. I cant believe how quick that chick hatched!! If only the others would do that too. Also, since 3 are pipped and the others are not, is it likely they arent going to hatch?

As a lot of us were told. Put your hands on your butt. LOL What day are you on? They may still hatch. Don't give up.

Guess the others just arent as fast, Ive got a new pip!! They are actually hatching early. I just thought that they would all hatch at the same time...lol...done some reading on that and know better now. When do you take them out of the bator though?

I'm only telling you what I remember But I do remember the important things. LOL They can stay in there for a day at least. Boy I wish I could find the information I read. Let me see if I can find it for you. PS Don't open the bator!!

Go to the top of the page here, the Learning Center click on that then go to How to pages, They will have, Great info on hatching chicken eggs. click on that. How it helps. Need to go help my DH feed horse's. Good Luck

I know, the hardest part of the whole hatch is not opening the bator...its torture.....pure torture....but when I opened it to add more water (one was drying out and had made no progress since 8 last night) I looked my chick over real quick....came from a white egg....black chick....topknot....feathery feet.....5 TOES....SILKIE MIX?? Gosh..Im so EGGcited!!

Also, 2 of them have been pipped for 20 hours but have made no more progress...this is okay right...theyre alive becasue they peep and I can see them move through the window.

What's your humidity at? It seems a lot of peoples chicks are dry. I think I will keep my humidty at 75% if I can get it that high. I think as long as they are alive you should let them go. I had to help 2 of my chicks on my first hatch. it wan't nice. hopefully someone will help you that knows more. Good luck. I did read where it could take up to 36 hours but I'm not sure about that.

It really seems strange about all the dried out chickies. I know that most of us hatching together had issues with it. I was unable to check my humidity, but even those with high humidity ended up with some dried out. What could be going on??? Very strange. All I know is this, while assisting or not is a hard decision, I will ALWAYS help if it is because they are stuck/dried out. I was worried about how strong my chickies would be since they required so much assistance. They are all at least as strong and healthy as any chick I have ever purchased. So, while I was worried about helping in the beginning, I am 100% glad I did!!!!

Debby, sounds like your baby is a doll!!! Can't wait to see pics of the little one. Sure does sound "silkieish" from the description.

To be honest, I was all for letting nature take it's course... and then BAM half my eggs weren't fertile... I'm glad I helped the chicks, because I only ended up with FOUR out of 15 eggs. That's ridiculous... that's like... shipped blue orph numbers. LOL But anyways, I've got 4 adorable chicks that my nieces are going to LOVE and I'm stoked to give them the chicks, so they can learn to care for chickens themselves. Win win in my book.

I kept opening the little window and quickly putting a drop of water on the dried out one, and now Ive got a cute yellow chick! The other one is black with black skin, black legs, and black nails...weird...has 5 toes..feathers down its legs and the topknot. Someone else said silkie mix also. Hes pretty uugly right now, he had gunk from the egg all over him and didnt dry fluffy, most of his fluff is stuck to him...hes something alright. I have 4 more pipped at the moment.
