Farmer Viola......I need help. I have 5 wild chicks in my bator.....I have one pip, and 6 eggs that aren't doing anything yet. The chicks are climbing on top of the eggs. They are getting empty shells stuck on the other eggs. It's crazy. I'm afraid they are jeopardizing the other eggs. Is it ok?? I know I shouldn't open the bator with one pip. What should I do??
Thanks for your help.
Leslie
It's okay! I know it seems bad that they are running everywhere, but I see it as an alarm clock for the other eggs. Get up , get up, it's time to come out!
When you do pull them out it almost seems... oddly quiet. They won't hurt anything by running around or on top of the other eggs.
Don't open the incubator right now, because you have a pip. If you open it, you cause a sudden humidity drop, and that can dry out the membrane of the chick with the pip. It might glue that membrane to it's head right there at the pip mark and it might be unable to twist in the egg. Better to just wait.
Once that egg zips and comes out, and if there are no pips, that would be your window of time to take them out! Make sure the brooder is warmed up and ready![]()
