Day 18.....Lockdown

Humidity and temps have been where they need. Lowest I've seen the humidity was 55%.
Hoping for. My first successful hatch. Should get home from work and see pips. Fingers crossed.
My other question is typically speaking where will the pip be, will the bird pip out of the upper side of the shell?

Yes. They should pip at the big end of the egg. Pips at the small end means the chick is malpositioned and will probably need help getting out.

See it on the blue egg. They will normally take a long break after they pip. Most of mine were about 12 hours between pip and zip.

I think they will normally orient themselves to pip on the side facing up. Although, after you have newly hatched chicks running wild in the incubator, some may pip on the bottom or the side.

When you candled, you would have seen the air cell dips lower on one side of the egg than the other. They normally pip in that low side. Usually it will be facing up as the egg naturally rolls into that position, that side is lighter.

Some of mine pipped on the side facing down after the eggs got moved around by the other chicks. It doesn't seem to matter much, they still zipped fine.

after they pip a hole don't worry if it takes them 24 hrs to fully hatch, even if you see them breathing heavy. they are absorbing yolk and getting used to or air.
