Second time incubating didn't go as well as the first... Out of 23 eggs set, 16 made it to lockdown and only 3 hatched and out of those I think only one is going to make it.. One has very bad splayed legs and curled toes, the other has a very large swollen abdomen, from what I have read it could be that it didn't absorb the yolk sack well or correctly?? So frustrating to do eggtopsies last night, one had pipped through the air cell then didn't go further, all the rest, fully formed chicks didn't pip at all, I believe they drowned, DH said it was hard to think with there size they could have even positioned themselves correctly..
Got the incubator cleaned out and my Brother wants me to incubate some of there eggs, told him ok but then changed my mind, I'm going to set some of my barnyard mutts first. I think having the incubator in my living room was the problem, we heat only with a wood stove and there were some pretty good temp swings that caused the temp of the bator to drop. I'm going to put it back in the spare room with a small space heater to control the temp in that room . My first hatch I was diligent on keeping the temp at between 101-102, and the humidity between 45-50 , I'm going back to that, had such a good turn out the first time I cannot think of anything else it could have been.
