partridge baby #2 who is almost twice the size of baby number one

Also I have another chick with a big hole (essentially the whole air cell area) and he looks to be wrapped in a clear sticky membrane and looks stuck? its the one above the chick #2's head

Crysmom, thanks for the pics, nice job!
Marie, I can imagine you sitting there on your hands, or pacing. It won't be long now. I'm just starting with SpeckledHen's eggs, this is day one, and my others were started Sunday. I have a ways to go yet. Karen

Oh, congrats, I am so happy for you.

You are imagining right. That baby has a hole and I can see it but it is like the one above, it is not zipping but making a hole. It too looks like the membrane is around it but it does not look dried out? There is a second one peeping and rocking. But not much else so far. I wont sleep a wink. If this baby is not out by morning should I be worried. It was pipped this morning at 6 am when I looked. Has been peeping since last night. Thanks for your support.

I had one last hatch that had the membrane stuck to it. I waited to see if it would make it out by itself but it didn't. I had to help it out and as soon as I pulled a little off it popped right out. I think if I hadn't helped it wouldn't have made it out on its own. Good luck with the rest of your hatch. I would watch it for a while then decide if it needs help.

well I have 13 chicks

I had to help out three just like the one in the photo on page two the inner membrane was wrapped tight and dry around the chick on all three and needed me to peel back enough membrane for the chick to get its head out then it came out on its own

7 white chanteclers
4 partridge chanteclers

1 partridge chantecler not doing well at all, it hatched during the night (before 3 am) and it wasn't moving I guess for a while after it came out and it got stuck to the floor

so I carefully got it off the floor of the incubator and laid it out in the bator

1 partridge chantecler has a serious scissor beak defect this little one is a fighter but i'm not sure if eating is going to go well for it. Is scissor beak a genetic defect?

and 3 eggs that I thought were viable on day 18 have no life. They are still inthe bator but i'm 100% sure they are dead never saw them move or peep

so out of 30 shipped eggs I got 11 healthy chicks and 2 not sure but at least they are out

here they all are

there are two left in the incubator but one is deformed and the other not sure if its going to make it but we have 11 healthy babies and our 2 10 day old cochin chicks

newspaper is not a good idea
it can cause spraddle leg where the legs go out to side

use paper towels or something that doesn't have a slick surface

Very cute babies.
