We had a power cut at 1 AM this morn and we tried to rescue the chicks but it was just too cold for the Silkie who was a little weak anyway.

It died this morning.

1 left but it's a hybrid chick not a Silkie.

The hybrid is from my own flock of layers but I was looking to start a little flock of silkies as well.

Guess I'll have to get looking for some more eggs.

Hi Wade, sorry to hear about the weak one.

Can I just ask for my records, did you incubate throughout at 36 degrees C?

I'm working on figuring out the best temperature. 36 seems too low but if you can confirm that is what you used that would confirm that 36 degrees can hatch eggs (if maybe with a higher mortality rate)

No I had the incubator at 37.5 throughout then lowered the temp to 36 during hatching as I was under the impression that this would help prevent the membranes drying out.
