Day 21 chick still in progress

I wasn't trying to offend you either! We've been around enough threads together, I just know you hatch large batches, so I was curious.

That's great "real" data, and very interesting stuff. I can't imagine hatching 200+ at one time. I just hatched 21, and it feels like a bunch.

Thanks for sharing.

Well You did not offend me, I just do not want to offend anyone on here. I am a helper---I love sharing info, Love trying to help people if they have questions, Thats my reason for being here is to help. I do not want anyone to take me wrong. I try to tell what I would do, what I did, etc. I try to not down others advice because I know there is more than one way to do things---Like opening during the hatch-----some say it does not hurt, some say it does, I say when I did that some years back I had a very low hatch, if I even had a hatch----only thing I basically do different now is NOT open till the hatch is over. I have shared this info with alot of friends in my area and now they have way better hatches. So with that info---I do state it hurts here. I would Love to see everyone have real high hatch rates and would love to be able to heal all the sick chickens---But I am no Doctor-----wish I was!!

Talking about Incubating----You ever had 949 eggs(my biggest number) incubating at one time----Take about 300 out the hatcher at one time---20 or more different breeds that some have to be kept separated to not cross them---you know----you can put the RIR, YB and White Leghorns together but not the Black sex-links, barred rock, black jersey giants, black cochins etc----that would be a Mixed up mess to sell-----LOL----That's Fun!! I did buy another cabinet(GQF) to step that number up some but the bird-flu scare messed up things bad here and I have never used it. All the Auctions in my area(with-in a hour or so closed) closed down. There was one about 2 hrs away but it got LOADED from some that were attending the other Auctions that started going there and the price fell on everything. SO, I sold most all my chickens. In the last year I have hatched very little. We did have a New Auction open last Saturday----and the prices the few chickens it had---sold for---made me wish I had a 100 or 2 to sell. I am testing the Water so to speak by taking some chicks this weekend to see how they do. I have a place near me that starts selling chicks early----so I bought some to take----even If I loose a little to see if there is any interest. I would not mind cranking everything back up if it looks good.

Holy cow that would be alot at one time! I'm sorry the bird flu messed everything up for you. Mother nature can be harsh huh. I hope the auction goes well for you and you dive back in! We recently had an old one open back up, but I haven't gotten to go yet. Plan to take excess roosters and hens that I don't want to breed sometime.

On the opening the Bator issue, I have migrated a little more to your side. I don't open mine without a good reason. I will pull chicks part way thru a hatch, while there is a break in the action. I will assist if a zipper stops mid-way. And Seramas are a little more prone to late death, so I watch them a little more closely. But overall, I try not to open it.
