Day 24 and still no hatch?!

Thank you! This is my first hatch so I went in knowing that this may happen and am really trying so hard. It's just disappointing, especially trying to explain it to my two girls

We are so anxious to have some babies hatch!
Wow, 70% is wonderful!! I read about the dry hatch method as well. Sounds like that tends to work better. I really think I'm going to try that the next round. I've been learning more and more along the way so I'm hoping that the next batch I'll do better. I didn't know that you could store your eggs and then set them all at once, so like a dummy, I was collecting my eggs daily and then adding them to the bator!! Then it hit me, when it's time to stop turning them....then what?! So I quickly went out and got a second bator and now I have them in the egg turner for days 1-18 and then they get moved over to the other for lockdown.

Okay, so I really don't know what to do...today is day 31!!! Has anyone ever had them take this long?! I did candle again on day 28 and there appeared to be movement, but I don't know why it's not hatching. Maybe it was wishful thinking that I saw movement, but it really appeared to be okay. I've got a total of 5 eggs that are past 25 days and this one being the latest of the 5. I have no idea what to do!! I candled all 5 again this morning but I can't really see much. It's all black and can only see in by candling through the air sac which doesn't show me much. Any help would be appreciated!!! I'd hate to toss them if there is a chance they're ok and just late, but how late is TOO late?!

I have some 14 hatching going. One cracked and was rotten, 2 hatched at exacly 21 days, and I have 11 left. Today is day 22. My wife is getting nervous and doesn't think we'll get anymore. They are black copper maran and olive eggers. I just tried candling them and I heard one chirp so I put them back and shut the lid real quick.

I was going to use the same incubator style as the thread starter - but a FI model instead, and circulated air. After doing some ridiculous amounts of research into reviews and hatch rates, I called the store back and told them "no thank you." For the same price, maybe $20 more including shipping, I ordered a Brinsea 20 ECO that has much better reviews, construction, thermostat reliability, and reported hatch rates.

For what they charge for these styrofoam incubators (both still and circ air), you'd think they'd offer a better product, or at least offer replacement parts seeing as the LG and FI bators seem to share a common trend of the thermostats breaking within the 1st-3rd hatches, rather high percentage. I think I've read maybe two reviews on both bators that said they made it through one season, approx 5 hatches, before having to ditch the bator altogether and buy another one because you can't get replacement parts through those companies for their products.

It could be a thermostat problem, with all the info you've given compared to the reviews I've read on numerous sites. You could have a faulty one that isn't kicking on the heat enough to keep it warm enough; and the hygrometer has reports of reading either too high or too low (mostly too low). You can get a thermometer/hygrometer through incubatorwarehouse.com for $20 that has very good reviews for accuracy, and it's digital and doesn't sit inside the bator. It has a probe that goes into the bator, while the readout unit can be placed on top or to the side.

As for the LG and FI styrofoam bators - buyer beware. Many here have written in about how sub-par these things are, and its cost many members a lot of hatches.

I wish you luck on your newest hatch...keep us updated.

Any luck with yours? I hope you got a couple

No. There's no movement or noise. I think we're going to toss them. None of them hatched. We had 7 eggs and only 3 were good. They are in the incubator still because I don't know if I should toss them or just wait a few more days. This is day 26. Sooo....

Awe, that's too bad! I'm in the same boat...I've got 5 that are all past day 25 (1 is day 31!!) and nothing. I still have them in there because I just don't know. I candled the day #31 on day 28 and swore there was movement. I just don't know how long is TOO long.

Good luck on yours! I hope they do finally hatch.

Okay now I'm nervous. Today is day 18/19...set them at 10pm on day 1....this is my first time. My daughter cried when we candled one and it was not fertilized. If we get no chicks I will be sad....even though I have explained this to my kids over and over they will be devastated....we have 13 fertilized eggs and 1 possible. We candled them on day 14 and besides that we left them alone... omg am I anxious!

Okay, so after MANY failed attempts and no hatchers, I FINALLY got my first pip this morning!!!!!!

Cannot tell you how excited I am!! I had been racking my brain trying to figure out where I went wrong...humidity, temps, etc. Everything checked out?! Clearly there was something with all the eggs that didn't hatch early on but after an eggtopsy they were fully formed. I think it was poor ventilation. I've ruled out every other possible explanation and I think that is what it was. I had read somewhere that you can plug both vent holes during lockdown and this will keep humidity levels up, but Tuesday (when the pipped egg went into lockdown) I decided (after reading again here on BYC) to remove both to ensure proper ventilation and now look!!!! He started rocking last night and then woke up to a pip this morning with some more rocking! Today is day 21 too so he's right on time. YAY!!!!!
