Ok I guess I just wont seperate them. I guess I didnt think it would be a negative thing to have a house duck along with our small dog. I figured it would have plenty of company. But I can see that is frowned upon.

You can do whatever you want to do! Ducks may be happier with buddies, but there are several people on here with single house ducks that live life to the fullest. Don't feel bad about whatever decision you make!

I missed this thread for a few days but I think I'm all caught up now. So glad the babies arrived safely! Hope you can keep us posted with pics, there is nothing cuter than baby ducks IMO although I don't have any, just chickens. Ducks are adorable! Enjoy!

So happy those little babies made it ok! They are super cute
Hopefully they will calm down and stop picking on each other, I'm sure they were pretty stressed being in the shipping box for that extra time.
For our 1st ducklings we used a large cardboard box (we had just gotten a new stove) it was 3'x3' I think. And we lined it with a heavy plastic tablecloth and used zipties to secure it. Not the prettiest but it worked and held up and best of all it was cheap.
I know some people do keep house ducks...im glad ducks are so messy or I would have been tempted with our 1st pair...tiny little poop monsters My biggest concern (besides seperating the babies) would be that they would get into something and eat something they weren't supposed to in the house. They love to forage and tiny toy pieces, earrings etc. that are accidentally dropped would be a hazard if eaten.
We only have runners but I do feel like they are pretty smart as far as ducks go, easy to train for simple tasks. We don't have any other breed to compare them to though.
They should imprint on you well, just spend lots of time with them. Our babies are super friendly with my husband and I but shy and nervous around anyone they don't know.

They shipped from San Jose, California on Monday night. I just called the post office again and they said they are sure they wont be here until the morning. I am really worried I am gonna pick up dead ducklings. I used purely poultry and I should have gone through metzer I think. I didnt realize that purely poultry was not a hatchery itself.

yes purely poultry does not always hatch/ship the eggs directly (especially with ducks) but they do “stand behind the birds/eggs that are purchased through them” i have ordered both live silkie chicks and various hatching eggs from them and when one of my silkies had a hatch defect, they refunded my money on that one even though she survived well past the first 48 hours. that all your ducklings arrive in good health!!

so happy!!! yes i did read further....I personally don’t have ducks....(yet) but my choice for pet would probably be the runner as those are my favorite!! but with consideration of crested vulnerability and fact that you have already witnessed it being lowest, it might win out for pet duck here too!!! Good luck with your new babies!!!

Okay so this morning I decided they needed more room so I moved them to our bathtub. They sure are messy little things! I’m trying to keep it as clean as possible to help with the smell. As you can see I have a camera set up so I can check in on them at work. They are so fun! I need to start naming them!
