Day 4 On Coop Project: A Woman's Adventure

WOW!!! Those are really nice windows and nice door.

There are lots of us single girls doing our own coops, so you can do your own and own it and be SO PROUD of yourself and be a great example to your son.

Keep up the hard work and persistance. Can't wait to see more pics.

Hubby can't be all bad if he fixed dinner.

i would say leave the windows in the same condition as you found them. my stepdad finds/buys windows and uses them in that condition for crafts and such. great finds!
btw good luck on the coop!

I would use some of those windows for your coop, our chickens love to sit on the roost and look out the window. (Just an idea) Proud of you for taking on this project.

Great job on the shed, looking forward to the "after" pics. I am currently working on converting a large, free packing crate into a small coop. DH works long and hard all week, so I only holler for him when something is too heavy. 54 year old woman with a bad hip, here. And it's coming along. So you can and will do it, learning some valuable skills along the way!

The small, cordless circular saws are truly wonderful. But get a big cordless drill, power up. Screw as much as you can.
Sawhorses are treasures for life.

That pile of windows and doors is worth a lot. That door alone would go for about $150.00 here, the windows at least $30.00 each, in a restoration shop. Advertise them on CL in the nearest city of any size. The glass in the windows, if original, might be of interest to a stained glass or regular glass company. It will be wavy when looked at from an angle, if truly old.

DH has been known to joke that he married me because I had more tools than he - which is correct! I'm not a carpenter by any means, but I have books and BYC for help and advice!

So, jump on in, the water's fine!

OH!
Remember this: If something isn't quite "right", it is NOT a flaw - it's a "feature"!

That sounds almost spookily like me...except bad knee instead of bad hip. I am working on converting 2 8x4 shipping crates into coops as well as the wooden raised playhouse that my kids have outgrown (this we we are calling the hi-rise coop).

I am also looking forward to seeing photos. It would be a dream come true for me to have that much wood, etc. I have been haunting CL for free/almost free materials. My kids laugh every time we go somewhere, because I am constantly scanning the roadside for free stuff that I can re-purpose for my chickens.

Day 6 and we are ahead of schedule! Tomorrow he will finish the run, lay the linoleum and build the roost. I should be able to get my girls and guy this weekend!

Hi everyone! Well, the coop is finished! The carpenter completed everything yesterday while I was at work. There are a few things that need to be "tweaked" and I need to do a little more predator-proofing. That will be my project for tomorrow. Hubby is going to help too! LOL! The smell of the linoleum in the coop is a little strong, so I am going to wait until Tuesday to get the flock so everything can air out a bit. I still have my decorating to do, but that will take a bit of time. I will post pics as that progresses....As for now, here are the before and after pics! Any input would be great, especially if you see anything that may need to be changed! Thanks in advance, you guys/gals are GREAT!
