So my eggs went in on the twentieth. I got impatient and candled today!

I have 6 bantam eggs and two project americauna/BO eggs. ALL were fertile and growing! YAY! This is my first time incubating so i was and still am very nervouse. But i am very excited that they were all fertile. I love my rooster, they are great. I was affraid that they werent going to be fertile because my bantams had to be put in with the big ones for a while.

So excited! Will try and get pics. But its kinda hard! Haha!

It's day 5 for me too and I also couldn't wait to candle my eggs. I only checked 3 of my 16 eggs and all 3 were fertile. I'm hatching RIR-RIW mix. This is also my first time hatching eggs. I really enjoy it but I do worry over the littlest things. Good luck!! I hope they all hatch. I'll let you know how it goes.

I candled mine last night - day 8. I have 50 in the incubator. All are shipped eggs so I'm not expecting much. Of the 50 - 12 were just put in on Friday - so I didn't bother with them.

From the remaining 38 I removed 10. 2 were cracked from shipping & not developing. By the way I have 1 cracked egg that is developing normally. The rest were clear eggs or had blood rings.

So - I still have 40 cooking. I'll candle again on Friday & see how my new dozen are doing.

Good luck to all!

Yay! I was wondering if anyone would be hatching the same time i do. I have 6 BB Red OEGB eggs and two americauna/BO mix. Im excited to see what the mix will turn out to look like. I am hatching my others to sell. But i will be keeping the mix, to go in with my back yard flock. Although if they are roos i will most likely get rid of them.

Cant have another roo. Im just hoping i dont make any mistakes. I worry about the littlest things to.

This will be my 4th batch. So far my hatch rate has been awful. But I learn something new each time. I'm hopeful - but guarded this time.

I am so afraid that i will get them to lockdown and do something terribly wrong. But i am hopeful to. I hatched out babies from my hen last year. But she sat on them. And there was a 90% hatch rate. But an incubator is way different.

Candled again today. Haha! Eventually i will get so bad i will be candling everyday. Anyway, ALL babies were alive and growing. SOOOO very happy. I havent done anything wrong yet.

Today was only day four, but I attempted to candle a couple of them anyway. I honestly have no idea what I'm looking for. I see something, but have no idea if what I'm seeing is good or bad. I found a few pictures online but they weren't really helpful. This is my first attempt at hatching with an incubator, I've always let a broody do the work for me and never bothered to candle the eggs.

Can anyone recommend a good, informative source for learning to properly identify what you see when you candle an egg?
