We just had 6 eggs hatch. The chicken that was brooding, had laid them in the corner of our yard, outside of the coop where they were safe. So today was the first day I actual saw the chicks running around with mama. Then I heard a chirping from a near by bush. It was the last (6th) chick that had been left behind and to my astonishment, it looks as though the his (we’ll call it him for sake of the story) head was almost like ripped off. The skin and feathers have most definitely been ripped off. Almost like he has been scalped. I believe it could have been a rat or raccoon or cat that tried to get him, unsuccessfully, since they were sleeping outside of the coop.He was crying to his mom and sibilants but I think he was left behind or he couldn’t follow because he’s blind. I think he may have sight in one eye but definitely not the other. I’ve been trying to feed him and give him water but he’s not eating. I was able to get him to take some water by syringe but not a ton. He’s able to walk a lil bit but he’s wobbly of course because he needs to eat to gain more strength. Please help. My first instinct was that he wasn’t going to make it but he seems like he could possibly if I could get some nutrition in him. Please help. I’m just not sure how to beat handfeed a baby chick. I don’t want to do anything wrong and suffocate him or anything.
