I got 4 1 day old chicks today. I got two blue wyandotte pullets and two black tailed white Japanese bantam straight run. One of the bantams is a little brat. It is pecking at the other chicks and seems to have an attitude. Could this be a sign of a rooster? Oh I hope not!

Normal chick behavior at that age and not necessarily indicative of a roo. That young, they peck to explore. They have no hands so their beaks are it. They often go for the eyes at that age and should settle within a few days.

If you notice eye-pecking persisting much past a few days or any one chick singled-out for an inordinate amount of abuse, take action before something bad happens. 99% of the time they give as good as they get so the behavior usually ceases on its own.
