Day old chicks wanted (Found) updated!

Good luck on the new coop! Are you separating your standards and bantams?Do you know how big a S. Cochin's egg is compared to a B. Cochin egg? I was thinking about getting some next year.

Thanks, hopefully we can get a good bit of it done tomorrow. I am going to separate the Standards and Bantams. That way the Bantams dont get smushed and the Standards will have more room in their coop.

I would imagine after they start laying well, the S. Cochin egg would be like 1 and a half times bigger than the B. Cochin eggs. Our B. Cochin lays small eggs. Hers are a little bigger than the ones I got from the OEGB hens I had here for a week.

My S Cochin hasnt started laying yet and I have 4 coming from Ideal in a couple weeks, hopefully.

Honestly, I prefer my S. Cochin. Even though she was a free ranger and I didn't get her til she was 5 months old, so she's not uber friendly...theres just something about the big fluffy chickens I love. Thats why I ordered the 4 new ones in Standards.

The bantam ones are really cute though. So I guess its just a choice of space and whether you like big chickens or small ones.

The little ones are tougher and feistier for sure. My white B Cochin is the head honcho. She used to put our roo in his place, which was hysterical. He would chase the other girls and the cochin would chatter at him til he hid his face in the pine tree, and he would stay there til she let him out lol. The ones from Kim definitely let the others know that they may be small but they aren't taking any crap! lol

Now that Peppi is laying, will you let her raise babies? I want a pullet like her

How are the other babies that were hurt? Did your other EE mixes hatch?

Peppi laid another egg today! My mom and I want to hatch the eggs in the incubator, but my dad said no.

He said I can hatch as many chicks next year as I want so thats a plus. (I hid the incubator downstairs last time and he didn't find out until the eggs were on day 8)

So he couldn't exactly let me throw them out... He has already checked downstairs this time to see if I hid the incubator again. I really really want to hatch these babies because they are Partridge x Lavender crosses.

We had to move Brianna and the chicks because the rooster were trying to mate the chicks. Brianna couldn't scare them off, and they accidentally killed one.

So now she has 7 babies.

Oh, and the other two EE x Silkie cross eggs didn't hatch for some reason....

So Snowball has one chick.

Awww poor little lonely chick!

Sorry you lost one of your babies. Thank goodness the rest are ok.

Dads are silly, they always have all these rules that dont always make sense lol.

Cool, Peppi is on a roll. If I knew how to run an incubator and hatch eggs, I would do it for ya. Never had one before. I am trying to drop hints for one for Christmas or my Birthday next year lol.

You could borrow ours maybe. Just get the temperature to 99-100 degrees. Turn the eggs twice a day. When you reach day 17-18 fill the tray with water. And wallah! You've got chicks!
