Have you hatched first eggs before?

I thought I read on here somewhere that first eggs are smaller or had smaller yolks. And that you should wait to hatch eggs til the chicken had been laying longer. Something about the chicks not being as big or healthy? I know nothing about hatching eggs though, only what I have read on here.

I dont think any of the eggs hatched, that I bought at the sale and gave to my friend to hatch. They should have been hatching this past weekend, but she didnt call. Bummer too, cause they were all blue/green eggs, I was hoping for some neat EE'rs. Oh well.

Yes, we hatch every year. I did two hatches this summer and the rest were under broodies. Peppi is an incubator baby! Yes, it is recommended that you wait to hatch eggs until they are well into their laying cycle. I am hoping to start hatching in January this year!

You know the little chick that the broody hatched? Well, she abandoned it and now it is in the house!

Are you guys taking anything to the sale tonight?

I am taking those 2 Muscovy ducklings and the last 2 of those OEGBs that I kept. I think the littlest one is looking a lot like a roo and the silver laced one attacks our hands.

I think I might have a pair of black Silkies. One is starting to get wattles and is bigger than the other one. So hopefully the smaller one turns out to be a pullet. I might sell the male once I find out if it is definitely a roo. Cant tell on the Buff one yet. My Gray Silkie is around 5 months old but hasnt crowed yet. So I might have to wait a couple more months to find out their sexes.

I guess maybe I should have tried a stuffed animal for Nemo before I got him 14 friends lol. Im still waiting to find out what breeds 8 of them are. I have 5 RIRs that have wing feathers growing in and 1 that has hardly any wing feathers yet. Wonder why 1 is so far behind. All the same size.

I cant wait til my Ideal order gets here! I am really hoping I get everything I ordered.
