All I am saying is not to worry about the feed having a coccidiostat. I am well aware that the chain stores here refuse to carry a proper starter for poults, keets, game birds or quail.
I am fortunate that a chain lumberyard happens to carry poultry feed and they were more than happy to start carrying the starter that I use. I use a 28% protein turkey or game bird starter for both my poults and keets. It is not a medicated feed.
I do not recommend feeding a 21% protein starter but if it is all you have, you don't have a choice. You can help them out by giving them crumbled hard boiled eggs. The eggs are only 12% protein but they are a perfect combination of the best proteins for the poults. You can also give them vitamin B complex made at the rate of 1/2 capsule or tablet dissolved in one gallon of water. It should be their only source of water and should be made fresh daily.
The trouble with the low protein starters is that they are also low in the amounts of lysine, methionine and niacin.
Good luck.
