So it's been years since I've raised chicks. Even coffee can't jar my memory, so I'm asking the other pros:
How old and how warm of outside temps before I can leave the heat lamp off during the day? Thanks in advance!

You'll want to start your chicks off at around 90-95F the first week, and lower the temp 5 degrees for each week they age. When your temp matches the temp outside, ditch the heat.

The 90-95 is the typical recommended starting point, but I try to aim a bit lower, around 85 the first week. Hope that helps :)

Thanks. I don't have a thermometer in there, just kind of been going off of where they lay and play, close to the light, or far from it. Been taking the brooder outside in the afternoons without the heat lamp for a few hours on the warmer (mid 60's) dry days. But not sure when I can leave it off all day. That helps, thanks.
