SULMET IS a coccidiastat; yes, it is also an antibiotic. It works differently than amprollium. Amprollium blocks thiamine (B1); sulfa drugs block folic acid and PABA (folic acid precursor). Coccidia need both thiamine and folic acid to reproduce. http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/index.jsp?cfile=htm/bc/200800.htm

There
are also other effective coccidiostats and coccidiocides.

No adults and juveniles have usually built up a tolerance. Personally i use Amprol as it is easier on the birds and more natural.

There is no true immunity to coccidiosis (barring vaccination). It can occur at ANY age. However, there is usually less tolerance in younger birds than in older ones.

This is incorrect. It is a sulfa drug. That is why I would use and antibiotic along with it. It is an antibacterial... they are different.

Sulfa drugs (sulfonamides) are one of many classes of antibiotics.

No. The strains of coccidia chickens can get do not make ANY other species ill. Yes, there are OTHER stains of coccidia that can infect humans or other mammals, but not these.

I don't know where you got you information at but it is incorrect.

Amprolium -
Trade names Corid and Amprovine, Amprolium, Amprol, Anticoccid and is a thiamine analog, competitively inhibits the active transport of thiamine (B1).

Lasalocid -
Trade names Bovatec. Bovatec (lasalocid) is a coccidiocide that kills coccidia. It is an ionophore that moves potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium into the cell causing the cell to burst. Bovatec works primarily on a single developmental stage of coccidia, providing a more narrow range of action than Deccox.

Sodium Sulfamethazine -
Trade names Sulmet and PoultrySulfa for the treatment of coccidiosis or various bacterial diseases in chickens, turkeys, swine, and cattle.

But dont the chickens NEED thiamine?
