Day two and three dead, how long does Sulmet take to bloody work???

can be complications associated with Cocci..not just cocci.. I use terramyacin or duramyacin in conjunction with Sulmet to treat secondary infections which are VERY common... Sulmet is usually very effective in 24 hours, however give no vitamins at the same time or it renders it ineffective.

Sulmet is an antibiotic, it does not kill protozoa, which is what cocci is.

This is incorrect. It is a sulfa drug. That is why I would use and antibiotic along with it. It is an antibacterial... they are different.

Should I reapply the Sulmet at full strength? Or just cross my fingers that the Corid gets here tomorrow? The two worst chicks are looking very droopy again.

No.... follow the course you are on. Add the terramyacin.... If the sulmet isn't working go to amproline (corrid) but only after adding the antibiotics... It is possible to kill them with the cure so don't deviate and up the amount beyond the label. You are making a fresh batch every day right??? 2 TB per gallon for 2 day and then 1/2 that...

Give them eggbread... they are likely drooping because of malnutrition. They won't be able to eat well if you are late in the game on this... Soft foods.... gerber baby food (cereal) Cranberry jelly from a can.

Thankfully they are eating well, and drinking, but they looked much better yesterday than today.

Terramyacin, where does one get that?

BGOV... feel their crops... They will peck around like they are eating... it will look like they are but confirm it by checking the crop... This is a common mistake. You are probably right but be SURE!!!

I would not add terramycin- it has no effect on Coccidia. I would feed them yogurt to replenish their gut flora and fauna and give the Amprolium at full dose for a full 5 days, being careful to keep them in a very clean brooder and not allow them to eat poop. Sulfa has an effect on coccidia even though it is not meant for protozoa, as it interrupts the life cycle of the oocysts. It is MUCH harder on the gut due to the antibiotic/antimicrobial qualities.

Terramycin will kill bacteria, but in doing so, it will kill of any remaining beneficial bacteria, but will have no effect on the protozoa.

For today, give them yogurt and feed them normally, and tomorrow move into a full round of Corid. It isn't unusual to have some reddish brown runny poops, as cecal poops are different from normal poops, and happen every 8-10 poops. These also smell pretty bad. They will be followed by normal poops.

Do make sure they're eating, and you can put a meal worm in their feed bowl to encourage them to eat. That action gets them very interested.

You are good to ask but I check them about every four hours. If their crops are full but dry feeling I make them drink a bit and if its full but squashy I show them the food again, pecking it with my fingers until they eat some.

The outside ones arent getting near as much coddling lol.

Do you have any cranberry sauce??? apple sauce??? egg bread. I really think they get a sore throat and they get maybe a spec or two down but not enough... The extra sugar will perk them up a bit... Banana, any canned fruit. Give that a go and see if it doesn't perk em up....I think if they survive you got them at deaths door... it is likely that you stopped the Cocci with the Sulmet and now you are dealing with the after effects of emaciation/starvation. Rooster booster is a good choice after the run of sulmet to pick up appetite...for now try to get something soft down em.

It took awhile but they were finally persuaded to eat scrambled eggs.

They do look brighter now
