Rex walked around the camp, his morning rounds when he came across something...Zelda's stomach gurgled. She was starving. Every bit of meat she caught, she gave to her pups. There was a herd, yes, but it was so far away...a day's trip, really. And even if she did get there, Zelda was afraid she'd be too exhausted to catch a deer. Tears welled in her eyes as she looked over her pups. She couldn't keep up with this. Zelda knew, that, for the survival of both her and her pups, she'd have to do something she'd been thinking about for a while, but was also dreading.
Sighing, Zelda walked towards Oak and Cedar. Their faces were so peaceful as they slept...Zelda picked the two, small pups up, and, under the cover of darkness, made her way to the pack's campsite. She silently lay the two in the center of camp. Zelda choked back the tears that threatened to fall. She'd given up on the two. Now, their fate lay in the pack's paws. Zelda stole away back into the forest, pausing once more to look back at Oak and Cedar. "I'm so sorry, my little ones," She whispered, her voice trembling. Then, full of grief, she took off into the trees.
