DE Questions

I just bought a 50lb bag of food grade DE.
Right now it's sitting in my barn, and I'm wondering if I should do something else to store it, besides leaving it in the brown paper bag it comes in?

Also, do I need to take the chickens out of the coop to sprinkle the DE in their bedding? Or can I do it while they are in there? They do not have access to the outside, yet.

I read somewhere to give them 5% by weight in their food. 5% by weight of the food or weight of the chickens? I wasn't quite clear on that.

My bag says 2% to the dry weight of the feed.
When I put it into the coop the chickens were all outside but they are always following me around so some came in when I was dusting the coop.
