Dead chicken oh no!

With the brown smelly liquid I'm thinking that means she had a bad infection or maybe the dewormer made her sick? i don't know but i guess its time to dig a grave. i was thinking of eating her but the foul smelling liquid makes me think of infection so i'm not going to even attempt that. I have gutted other chickens and never had a brown liquid that smelled putrid before..

I am not quite sure. Is there a vet close to you? It might be worth getting it checked out there. It might be a cancerous thing as well. Sorry I wasn’t much help but keep us posted if you find out what was happening.

no vets near me take chickens without a $300 down payment so that is out of the question. lol

i know what that is. thats sour crop. my issue is different. her whole body was filled with the brown liquid. not just her crop.

Sounds like some sort of peritonitis. Plain ole ascites is a clear fluid, so I suspect she had an infection. How did her intestines and liver look?

Ascites. A fluid buildup which is caused by a reproductive issue.

Maybe you should take the liquid to an avian vet. They might test it and now what it is.

Anyone that lives in California can get a 1-2 chickens necropsied for $20 and they will let us use their FedEx account number.

They will also test fluids and tissue, and those tests would probably be less than $20 each.

Liver and intestines looked normal I have gutted chickens before so i know what to look for so Im guessing it was an infection.. everything looked normal except she didn't have any yolks, and her body was filled with the stinky brown liquid.
