1/2 mile down the road their Husky took care of 3 of our girls when we were not home one day. This time whatever animal it was broke through a little run and reached under the coop for at least one of them, during the day while my husband was inside. No dog fur caught in the chicken wire, and not sure a dog could have pulled one out the small opening to under the coop. How close is your nearest neighbors and do they own dogs?
Reaching under sounds like something a raccoon would do. But it is possible a raccoon did the killing but a dog or a stray cat could drug the corpses back1/2 mile down the road their Husky took care of 3 of our girls when we were not home one day. I think everyone was scared and trying to prepare to answer a zombie chicken question. That was my thought when I read the title.
But on a serious note trail cam is probably your best bet to figure it out
squirrels will do that tooA friend of mine just gave me a whole first alert security camera system. I came to work all aggravated yesterday because someone stole all my peaches off my tree on my property. I know it's just peaches, but the thought of the ingnorance and entitlement someone has drives me nuts. They couldn't take a couple--they took them all. There are 4 cameras. One will be going on that tree, one on the run, and the other two are not determined yet.
We live just outside Ithaca NY, and the neighbors dog did the first killing. Going to get a trail cam I think so we can at least turn the dog owner in for not keeping his dogs on his land. What kind of fencing do you have for your outdoor pen?
