.I
do not know what is going on.Her body was all beat up but I think she froze to death. I am heart broken , she was sweet ,kind and
a good layer and now she is dead. Any ideas what is going on . How can a hen stay alive for 2 weeks without a coop ?
Thanks ,
Ann

A chicken is unlikely to freeze to death even with no coop. Chickens are more prone to getting damaged by heat than cold. The biggest danger to a homeless bird is predation, not elemental issues. I have "misplaced" a handful of birds over the years. They often show up several weeks later with a new brood in tow. These lost birds are my most dedicated broodies. If they don't get popped by a wandering raccoon/fox/coyote, then they show up with an unexpected batch of babies.

Don't beat yourself up over the matter.
