Dead Rooster !

Lol, thanks for the replies ….. I knew I couldn't be the only one with this problem.

He is an almost 2 year old Barred Rock, Is very friendy, and takes good care of the girls, so I am very hesitant to dispatch him.

I'm in the middle of nowhere, so no lights from cars, or anything, BUT, there is a dusk to dawn light, in close proximity to the coop. Could he be seeing this light through the windows, and reacting to that ?

I'm up early anyway, (not 3:00am) it's just he WON"T STOP !!!

I will try leaving the light off for a few nights and see if this helps.

Thanks for the replies …..
Good questions...also is he the only male?

Yes, he is the only male. Great video clip, by the way !!! The other questions were answered above.

Has he had this problem previously?
I'm assuming you've had him for 2 years.
Could just be spring fever...or something(predator) could be lurking around the coop.

Is it bad that I want to go out to the coop, and strangle my rooster ? Right now this would give me great pleasure.

He has been crowing every 12 to 15 seconds, since 3:00 am this morning. Yes I counted the seconds between crows !!!

It's now 6:15 am.

This is a daily ritual, and I'm getting really tired of it. At this point I have one nerve left, and he's pecking the crud out of it !!!

Two words come to mind ….. Bullet, and Brain …..

Anyone else have this dilemma ?

EDIT : I'm (probably) not gonna strangle, or shoot him, (today) but, all bets are off if this continues.
I have to ask: how close is the coop to the house?
I have not once been awoken by my roosters. If I'm already up and say, putting the dogs out to potty in the morning, I can just barely hear them crowing.
I agree with the idea of turning off the lights. But roosters can see UV light and that shows up before the visible light in the morning. But certainly not at 3:00!
I also agree there may be something checking out the coop in the wee hours of the morning. But if your coop is truly predator proof, there is little worry about from that but it would explain his constant crowing. Do you have any snow on the ground that you can look for tracks in?

For the last several weeks he gets with it around the same time every morning. Nothing new.

I've only had him for a little over 2 months, as I rescued him, and 8 pullets just before Christmas 2019.

No predators, at least he could see …… The windows have a thick, semi-opaque plastic covering on them.

I'll try relocating the dusk to dawn further away, around the corner of the barn.

The coop is about 40 yards from the bedroom window.

As stated above, no predators to my knowledge, I have cameras set up around the coop, and with the plastic window covering, he can't see out.

He does stop when the pop door opens at 6:30 am though.

Ah, so just about long enough for the buffet to be noticed...
..and maybe him to get comfortable enough to sound off more.

I have cameras set up around the coop ...he can't see out.
He can hear tho...anything on the cameras?

Is there food and water in the coop...or only outside in the run?

He would be seeing the predator, he'd hear it. But if you haven't seen anything on the cameras, that's not likely to be the problem.
