Dealing with mites in house

I have used Elector PSP with great results. I tried the sevin dust method and the VCO to smother... didn't do a thing for me. That's when I bit the bullet and shelled out the big bucks for Elector. Worked first try! Didn't have mites again. Brought in a new girl and found 3 running around on her. Treated her right away and sprayed the coop to be safe. No mites have shown up since. I even used it on a pigeon with lice. All good there too.

That is so interesting. I'm aware that Carbaryl is no longer listed for use on poultry in the United States. I believe one of the reasons may be resistances. (but don't quote me)

I'm in Canada and Carbaryl is still listed for poultry. I dusted the entire flock this spring with Carbaryl and it was very effective. I check a different bird every day and there has been zero mites, thankfully...lol.

I'm very glad the Elector PSP worked for you. :) Mites are nasty little creatures.

Just wanted to thank everybody for the help over the past week. Anne died yesterday after a long and hopefully happy life. Though I know she had something internal going on, and I had been worried about her all fall a little, it was the loss of her brood mate two weeks ago that definitely precipitated the downward spiral. A year ago I didn't even WANT chickens in our backyard (we inherited from the neighbors, who were going to kill them); now I am just a weepy mess about this whole thing. Given the day, I will just say I am thankful she is not suffering any more, and I am hopeful somewhere out there her spirit met up with Bonnie's, and they are together again.
