This is so strange.

I have 22 eggs that are due the 12th. I just candled, set 5 aside to be trashed, and put 17 eggs in the other Brinsea ready for hatching. Three were clear (I must not have candled these before, doh!) and the other two appear to have died along the way.

Wait!

I recandled one I was going to toss and it was moving a ton! It has large air cells on both ends so I thought it had died. I have two like that so put them both in the incubator. I never saw the 2nd one move at all, but put it in there anyway.

Once again, I have one with the air cell on its side too, so marked that one well and will break that one out after all the others hatch if it doesn't hatch itself.

So, now it's 19 eggs in lockdown, 3 with strange air cell issues. I have no idea why suddenly I'm getting these weird air cells the last two hatches.

16 - perfectly normal
2 - have air cells on both ends
1 - air cell is on the side

I question the ones with air cells on both ends as how are those chicks going to have enough oxygen? I can't really find much about it.

Edit: I just found one thread sort of related, it was about ducks. The person put the duck down though as it had some neck issue due to being between two air sacs. Someone else on another thread said in the last four days their split air sacs merged. Well, there are four days to go on these so maybe they'll be okay!
Go eggies, GO! :woot

Wow, I've never seen one with an air cell on both ends. I did have the one with the aircell on the side in a previous hatch and it was from my own chickens. Come to think of it, I have boiled eggs recently and several of the brown eggs has the aircell on the side and not where it should be and theyve been stored pointy end down in the carton. Now I need to start candling the eating eggs, maybe I have a defective hen!?! 🤔

I bet I know what the two-air cell thing is!

I was using the NR360 before so it didn't matter which end was pointy. I get some perfectly oval eggs that are impossible to tell which end is pointy. I should have candled them before I set them in the Brinsea, but I just took my best guess. I'll bet my "best guess" was wrong!! Oh those two poor babies have to fight in there because their mother is an idiot. :barnie

As for the one with the air cell on the side, that's two hatches in a row for one of those and they are/were very obvious which end is pointy.

Good luck Debbie :fl This should be an interesting hatch!

Don't beat yourself up over it, those super round eggs are ALWAYS hard to tell :hugs

An early bird! I see another pip.

Nothing going on in the incubator yet. They are due in two days. :)

I set 28 (of mine) today, due May 1.

From tomorrow on, all fancy hen eggs are being saved until I'm back from Cancun on the 26th. (Leaving the 18th.) ☀️😎⛱️

Cancun sounds like fun, don't forget to send us postcards! (Or pictures will do :D)
