December 2021 Hatch-A-Long

One of the white marans chicks from our Greenfire hatch. Total of 7 live chicks on day 22, just moved them to the brooder. I had one more who pipped but ended up pip down and doesn't seem to have made it. I'm giving it a bit more time to be sure. But 7 live chicks out of 12 eggs feels really good for a shipped eggs December hatch.

If I were to hatch in carton I use a hole punch so it can breathe well.

That's not bad at all! I hope my Greenfire eggs give me some chicks for NYE. I'm disappointed in their handling (or not) of the super sticky shipper adhesive being on the eggs I got last week, but hopefully get a few consolation chicks for my money. Their birds are gorgeous!

My Dec. 9 th chicks.

My Nov. 30th chicks mixed in with Nov. 20th chicks. One of the keys to blending chicks that are older, is have more of the younger chicks than you have of the older chicks.

Yes, they are spoiled they have their own beds.

First baby chick ever! Little Wyandotte hatched at 11 o’clock! 15 other eggs in lockdown (SLW and SLW crosses).

It's a party this morning- Six Silver Laced Wyandottes and one Golden Comet/Wyandotte chick. All bubbly and now taking a snooze to get ready for the next wave of hatching (6 of 16 hatched so far and another 6 with pips).

We're still waiting here with our Ginny and we're into day 22. My heart is starting to sink. We've had the worst weather here. It's pretty much rained solidly for the last week. I guess we'll see how she goes for the rest of the week and then make some decisions on the weekend.
