DECEMBER Hatch-A-Long!😊

So the Christmas chicks all hatched on day 20 (Christmas Eve) as all the others did this month!
8/9 hatched. Last one appears to have internally pipped into a blood vessel and died in the shell.
Oh well, it was a good hatch anyway and otherwise every egg that was placed that was fertile, hatched, except for one early quitter (day 10) in the eggs from earlier this month, and now this little DIS.
20/22, 90.9% hatch rate ain't bad.
The malpositioned, pipping on the wrong end chick did really well (Photos attached). It did require quite a bit of help, but was able to make the last push out the shell on its own. Spent most of Christmas Eve hanging by the incubator!
Christmas is low key this year and all the preparations were done already, so all is well.
I will post photos of all the other little fluffers later!

Update on my Citon Sebright batch:

Due date 29th December ⏲
Did a final viability check today and the contenders have gone into lockdown
Started with 15 eggs (purchased eggs that were shipped interisland) 🏝 🏝
Midway through incubation we had a power outage day so there was an hour without power while I setup a backup generator
Aaand so far - I've got 1 infertile, 3 quitters, and 11 goers

So far I'm very happy with progress! Bring on Hatch Day!! These wee babies are well awaited new genetics for my favorite project

My hatches when south fast today. Incu wouldn’t get above 93F no matter what. I moved them into the mini bator, they are cramped but warm. It will not keep a stable temp unless it is wrapped up. Pray/hope for a good hatch please!

The one and I suspect only one to hatch from the eggs due today. I'm not surprised because I had so many issues with these eggs at the start. This one was with the batch of eggs that nearly got cooked! A Christmas miracle any hatched at all, I'd say!


I noticed some teeny wet feathers on her legs. She's from an unmarked mix of eggs that included Gold Sebrights, Mille Fleur D'uccle, Bantam Cochin, and Dutch Bantam eggs. I'm guessing Mille Fleur D'uccle! I'll post pics when she's fluffed up.

Here's hoping for a much better hatch with the Olandsk Dwarfs due on the 29th so she can have some friends. Those guys had great air cells and consistently good incubation conditions from the start.
