December Hatch-A-Long 2014

If a chick has internally pipped would you always be able to hear it peeping in there or do some internally pip and make no noise at all? I still have no more pips and I don't hear or see any activity

no not always :)

After breakfast I went to check on the chicks. My barred rock hen was sitting on the nest and the one remaining egg! Momma hen had taken her babies to a different part of the hen house, unharmed. I put them all in a dog crate and moved them to a horse stall so they will be undisturbed. I already know in my mind that the legbar egg won't ever hatch, so I don't care what the BR hen has in mind.

Four of my babies are from my Speckled Sussex and the other three are hatched from a black copper Marans. You can see the huge white spots on their heads!!!! I hope they aren't all boys since I'd really like to get some olive eggs next year.

Awww, those chicks are adorable!!!

I'm sorry you didn't get any of the other eggs to hatch. Winter is a hard time of year to hatch. I'm thrilled though that you got one baby!

I need a broodybator...your hatch rate is the best I have heard in a long time! Congrats!
Thanks! My broody hen was seriously sent from the heavens. She is the best momma out there! She actually got to hatch 3 of her own eggs this time, but I doubt she knows the difference. LOL

One day old and they are already out exploring the world. The tiny Sussex babies are already eating chick starter!

Day 10 started here not long ago and I just candled all 42 eggs. 40 are alive. 2 are unsure because they were speckled and it made it hard for me to tell.

Now I'm worried because, it looks like I've got some double yolkers. I've heard that they tend to not survive. And the thought of mutant chicks scares me

That's a great picture! What a sweet hen. She looks very happy!

I am sorry you are not hearing anything or have any action in your incubator...I am hoping when you wake today you will have some good news for us!

Today is supposed to be hatch day for my 4 rhodebar eggs. Last time I candled there was nothing but chicken in the egg. So viewing movement was not an option. Crossing my fingers on my first hatch with the brinsea mini...
