December Hatch-A-Long 2014

Here we are 9 hours into day 21 and I have no other pips yet, don't even see any eggs wiggling and don't hear any peeps. I'm starting to feel a little bummed. So far only 1 chick out of 10 eggs and 1 for sure that died!

I am happy you have one baby!!!! I hope so much you get some more... Hang in there.

Over the past couple of days, I've read this thread from beginning to end! It's exciting that so many of you are now at the stage that I can't wait to get to!
I have 26 eggs in the incubator that are on day 6. We are due for lockdown on Christmas Day. We have set eggs from white ameracaunas, black copper marans, lavender orps, Easter Eggers and olive Eggers. Did a quick candling (left eggs in the turner and just shone the light through a few of them) and everything looks on track.
Looking forward to the updates!

Congrats on setting your hatch! Are the eggs from your chickens?

Got up today and checked the broody. Seven eggs have hatched out of the eight. All the chicks are dry and walking around so I know they hatched yesterday. My broody is amazing - I love her! The one remaining egg is the legbar and I would guess it will never hatch. It has until tomorrow morning and then I'm tossing it. Will post pics of the chicks later.

I, too, have wondered about the black chicks with the white spot. I had eight hatch in November. Four had white spots. All of them are cockerels (I think at this point). One of the chicks with the solid black head is also a cockerel. The three black chicks that hatched yesterday all have white/yellow spots on their heads. I hope they are not sex linked!!! That would mean my hen has produced 6 cockerels out of 7 chicks. Maybe my luck is really that bad...

I need a broodybator...your hatch rate is the best I have heard in a long time! Congrats!

Woot Woot! Great job! Glad you were able to get the lil guy out! SOunds like you are going to be busy. WE got the same hatch rate...4 sizzles/6 and no splash. Sorry I missed this earlier but I was working on a brooder room. Gotta get it squared away before xmas vaca...when I entrust my chicks to a sitter!
I had two sizzles and one splash hatch today. Still waiting on two more splash and 3 more sizzles. Today was Day 21. These are the same ones that you are hatching!

I am quite sure my chicks are sex linked. The lady I got them from has barred hens and red roosters. So it looks like two cockerels and two pullets.

Well, all of the other eggs where bad. They all had dead, rotting chicks. Some where still under developed, but also dead. I removed them all, seeing they where rotting, so they didn't explode and harm my x-mas eggs.

I do feel bad, but at least I got x-mas chicks and the four I have currently :)

I am so happy you got a splash...! My hatch hasn't done anything else...I am bummed. Also, one lil guy passed...I am at 3 sizzlers! I do feel blessed to have them. I have seen nothing of my rhodebars...hoping they do something tomorrow.

I've got 4 in my bator (I'm pretty sure one is a dud) that should be pipping the day after Christmas :D I'm so excited!!! My first ever hatch of chickens! First time incubating. I had chickens ONE time growing up and I was no part of that experience. Now I'm going to be a happy henny mom :)

No, we bought hatching eggs from a local breeder that has a great reputation for good quality birds. We have such a strong demand for our eggs, we are in expansion mode. We currently have a small flock of BR, BO, SLW, SF and EE.
With more birds comes the need for a larger coop so thats in the works as well! I think this is what they call chicken math!

Just had to take another look at our eggs today
we still have 21 in developing.
and even saw one of the chickies in the blue eggs do the SWIM for us.

Can't wait for Dec 23 hatch, already have someone wanting them...

If a chick has internally pipped would you always be able to hear it peeping in there or do some internally pip and make no noise at all? I still have no more pips and I don't hear or see any activity :/
