December Hatch-A-Long 2014

Anybody know how accurate a water candling is? I haven't had any new pips or anything so I decided I couldn't wait any longer. Float tested all 8 and none sank but none moved, not even a little. I think they are gone. It is going to drive me crazy not knowing what went wrong so I may open a few and take a look! :/
So sorry to hear that Renee572, it's so hard to do those eggtopsy. I cracked 5 silkie eggs open last night, I was pretty certain they were clear, but it's always scary cracking them.

I hate looking...but, it is informative cracking the eggs and seeing what happened.
I had my boyfriend do it on my eggs from my first incubator. He said he cracked 4 ( 2 marans and 2 mixed) all 4 had fully formed chicks that never internally pipped

So my wiggling marans still never pipped. I took it out today (day 24) and candled it. no internal pip but I may have saw movement..could have just been my eyes though so I don't know what to do about it. These marans chicks that have hatched have been huge. Like the biggest chicks Ive ever seen and Ive had to help 2 who just couldn't get themselves out cause they couldn't turn around to zip all the way

What are you going to do with the maran? Did you put it back?

Alright well my hatch is officially over. Out of 12 eggs to start with 1 infertile, 1 blood ring, 1 living chick, 1 died while zipping, 1 possibly 2 internally pipped then died, 3 died either before lock down or right after and 3 others made it to lockdown and died before pip.

I'm no expert but upon doing eggtopsies I have concluded that I shrink wrapped my poor babies in their shell, which is why the one that pipped first must have died, it was just too stuck to move. And I am amazed that Peppermint even made it out knowing that. If that chick had taken any longer to get out I think it wouldn't have made it.

Now I gotta hope it's a pullet because we can't keep roosters! :/

Good luck to everyone else... where are the pics of the cute fluffy butts you all are hatching?

That's a bummer, hoping it's a pullet for you as well. Six days to lockdown here. Was Peppermint your only one? Sorry you may have posted it somewhere but I missed out.

Thanks. Yup Peppermint is the only one that ended up hatching out of 10 eggs that went into lockdown.

Has anyone has a good hatch? It seems like no one got even half of their eggs that went into lockdown to hatch, including me

Sorry about everyone's hatches. Good luck everyone else with December hatches still :jumpy

I was noticing that too. Unless people were using a broody. Mine was 21 start, 12 lockdown, 4 hatched one which was assisted and passed wi 48 hours.

Yes, good luck for the rest of the hatches!
