December Hatch-A-Long 2014

If it's an older model it probably has the temperature knob, instead of the digital screen button set method. It's my understanding they changed to the buttons for the heat fluctuation/leveling problem. Don't hold me to it but it seems I read that somewhere.

I have both. The 9200 (which looks like it has an oven element around the bottom of the lid and a turn dial for temp) and the 9300 (which has a small box heater on the bottom of the lid and a digital temp screen.)

I've only used the 9200 so far. It's REALLY hard to adjust temps without over-doing it. I tried putting a different dial on it but gave up.

How do people like the digital versions? For some reason it scares me. I don't know why.

We changed the power supply on the Brinsea Mini Advance since I'd read that might be the trouble. It is still jumping up and down from 99.3 - 99.5 - 99.6 - 99.5 - 99.3 on the display every second. At least it is cycling up and through those numbers consistently, the egg surface temperatures seem ok, it is just so weird?? The room isn't cold - in fact I keep it stable and a bit warmer than the rest of the house because I keep a ton of reptiles in there, and warming the whole room a little actually saves us on electricity. I don't know what to do, if anything - if the eggs are ok that's all I need, but will they stay ok and is this normal...? I'm wondering if the constantly jumping temp is because of the fan? When climbing to 99.5, it displays stable.. I can't fit my other thermometer in there and it isn't feasible for me to sneak a probe in.

I think the eggs are much more forgiving on the lower end temp swings...as opposed to hitting 103! Under a broody they cool a little when they are up for a break. I put the little brinsea yellow dividers around mine....but, I was having major drafts and sunlight issues...seemed to help. What kind of eggs do you have in there?

I have a little red line thermometer in mine so there is no way to tell the exact temp. It's just somewhere between 99 and 100. But my temp has jumped up and down several degrees but not for too long I hope. The eggs are looking good so will see what the hatching is gonna look like. Just a few days away :)

I have Serama eggs, there's a full batch of 12 in there with varying sizes. Smallest is less than 20 grams, largest is near 40 grams. The room they are in only gets significant sunlight on the other side of the room in the morning. I was worried of draft, so I stuck them at a far corner of my desk along the inside wall, there is fabric along the wall as well. It held stable for several days, I saw it pop to 99.6 sometimes but it'd go right back down. I might be worrying too much because they're delicate little things! My last hatches had several heat spikes, I only got 1 egg to hatch of 18 (the same number I have set now) and he had a slightly bloody navel. To say I am shy of temp troubles now would be an understatement

I was unaware of the dividers! What do they do? Do they help stabilize temps?

I hope your chicks come out healthy and strong! I will be watching for your lockdown progress especially. I did not consider that fluctuating fractions of a degree might not be the worst thing to happen when people report great hatches w/the eco even when they can't see that small a change. That gives me hope!

I love mine, I haven't had any problems with it.
