December Hatch-A-Long 2014

Oh my gosh, poor chick. So sad. So it doesn't have eyes at all? And with a crossed beak it won't be able to eat right? So sorry!
...One bubble and something bubblish and red like brain idk...it's alive...I just can't put it down...brought me to tears. Waiting for my boyfriend to come over and see. I am so bummed. And yes, he was assisted...was peeping away in the shell forever They were due to hatch Sunday.

Glad to hear you are going to try again. I want to also....but, I need a break for a bit. Maybe a smaller hatch with non shipped eggs in the brinsea...

Oh! Am I jealous?!!!! Totally! Where did you order the eggs? Did you get a new incubator?
silkies are from jodi turner davis. cochins from lucky pickens farm. and yes i did!! Im still going to use my cooler bator for days 1-18 cause its easier to hand turn and there and humidity and temp stays fine for that. and then lock everything down at once in the new bator. already been playing with the humidity and looks like its gonna be great :)

Yes Colonel, 'tis old. Got the turner knob up top which fluctuates the temperature like mad. I will truly be surprised (and find out just how resilient chickens truly are) if my 3 are all able to hatch out when they're supposed to. But this is my first time for anything chicken-related. Try, try again :)

When does everyone usually start to put bedding in their chicks cage? Mine are four days old, and are getting disgusting.

I found with the bedding the little guys were walking so uneven... So, I have my pen lined with puppy pad, then newspaper with paper towel on top. I change the newspaper and paper towel daily because they are feather footed, inside my home, and I don't want to smell them either. If the paper towel gets too soiled during the day I just put another on top. That's the best way I found to keep us all happy! Uses paper towels but it's easy! Everything in chicken rearing is a preference!

The 99.5 is your target temp for circulated incubator...unless you are using a still air incubator in which case they suggest 102.
interesting!
The directions on the box said to keep it at 99.5. Weird. Is it too late in the process for me to kick it up or should I still do it for the lock down? And at this point, is there such thing as too humid?

My poor little chick I just helped hatch is cross beaked and has two huge sacks where his eyes should be. I am completely beside myself.... What a day

So sorry to hear that. :( It does happen from time to time. Poor little bugger.
