December Hatch-A-Long 2014

peppermint (black) hatched 12/13/14, only one out of 10 eggs in lockdown. And chickadee (brown) bought so Peppermint would have a friend. She's a week older than Peppermint. Does peppermint look like a Barred Rock?

I located some local eggs, woot woot. So I may be getting Sicilian buttercups, California whites, polish, cochins, rir, barred rock and ameraucana. So excited. Set date will be Jan 17th and hatch date will be Feb 7th.

Peppermint kind of looks like my black sexlinks. But Peppermint could very we'll be a barred rock. What are the parents of her?

Then again, I am not too familiar with large fowl breeds

, 3 are rhode island reds and 3 are mixes, so that means today is day 19 ( its been the longest day of the longest 3 weeks of my life) cant wait is anybody got the same hatch day as me as that would be exciting?

Keep your fingers crossed on me getting a good female over male ratio! has anybody ever had an all hen hatch as that would be heaven? :)

My first three babies!!! Several more eggs had pips so hopefully their brothers and sisters will be with us by tomorrow morning!
Once again, thank you, thank you to all of the kind words, support, and advice during the Hatch a Long. I have learned a great deal from all of you!

Good luck getting your hens!

I am actually hoping for a little rooster in my bunch. I just lost our first rooster Little Red this week so hopeful that one of my new babies can take his place one day.

hmm they do look similar. I honestly don't know for sure. The guy said he had a wheaten ameraucana roo (not sure if that was the only roo) but he never told me what the hens were. When I picked the eggs up I noticed he had barred rocks, brahmas, buff orpingtons, Leghorns, gold laced Wyandottes and maybe a few others I'm missing.

Saying that Daisyfern i would quite like one rooster as i have cats and that little bit of protection might just help them, actually i think my cats will be more scared of the chickens ahaa

Looking Good----Keep in mind those hatched chicks will be fine in the incubator for 2 or 3 days---if they hit eggs etc----that has never affected my hatches--- In My Opinion----Leave that incubator CLOSED till they all hatch or day 22---which ever comes first!!!!! Very Good Luck To you!!!!

I agree PD-Riverman. I am leaving those little guys in there at least through tomorrow to give the rest time to hatch. Thank you!

Search BYC, there's a good thread on sexlinks, and maybe you can see if the possible parents could produce sexlinks. Good luck, Peppermint and her friend sure are cute :)
