What do you put in their dust bowl pan?

It's called contractors or construction sand. It comes in 40lb bags at Home Depot. I use it on my poop boards & with my chicks. They absolutely love it and it provides them with small grit. Just don't expect it to stay in the dish, lol. If I remember it 3 something a bag.

I will be taking my 2 chicks outside tomorrow for the first time. I will take some pics of them while they are not under the heat lamp and post them tomorrow. It's going to be so weird to see these 2 chicks compared to the chicks that hatch in less than 2 weeks. They are going to look huge compared to them. Hopefully they will eventually get along though.

Mine are a month old today! How time flies. My Olive chicks are all boys.

What bad luck. The four EEs look like two boys, one girl, and one mystery chick that looks more like a pullet but I can't tell yet. Kind of bummed about not getting any more olive pullets, but I'll have to try again later.

Their broody momma is going an awesome job as usually. She's actually the biological mother of the marans chicks. They are free ranging and integrating right in with the rest of the flock.

@ Ocho...those are great pics! I especially love the barn pic of her with her babies.

Your little Rhodebars roo mix looks just like mine. He was the only one that hatched for me...well, a pullet girl got stuck but she was cross beaked and extremely malformed. very sad.

Do you do okay with them with all the roo's? My rooster plan is to have them all with me! But, my oldest flock member now is 4 months. So, I am hoping that will work out.

These silkies I can't tell a roo from a hen. They are all under 3 mo

Wow you sure got a lot of cockerels. Broody mama looks great with the chicks!

My broody is the best. I wish she would lay more since she is my only black copper marans, but she's such a good mom that I can't complain too much!

As for the cockerel, no I won't be keeping them. I am keeping a couple from my November hatch to replace our rooster that died. I don't have the space or time to care for that many cockerels. We don't eat our birds, so I sell the boys to a lady that takes them all. She said she is using them for breeding, but I'm certain she is growing them out to process. That is fine with me. At least they get to grow up and don't end up going through the meat grinder as day olds.
